The following is an overview of the major sites, terminology, and tools you'll need access to in your role at Illinois State University.

ULID (University Login Identification)

Your ULID and ULID password is required to log into university computers and many online services. It's based on your full legal name. It’s also everyone’s email address: ulid@illinoisstate.edu.

One of the first things you'll need to do in order to access most services online is activate your ULID. You can do this at Account.IllinoisState.Edu. From there, you can:

Activate your ULID access
Change your ULID password
Set a recovery email address
Verify/update 3rd party email
Electronic signature policy (opt in/out)

NOTE: Don’t confuse your ULID with your UID number! Your ULID is your username and the first part of your email address. Your University Identification Number (UID) is a unique number used for all internal business at Illinois State.

Central Login

Central Login (sometimes referred to as "Single Sign On") is Illinois State’s primary authentication service for the campus. Logging in once from any location with your full university email (ulid@ilstu.edu) and password gives you access to many (but not all) of ISU’s secure online sites, such as Canvas and My Illinois State.

You'll use your ISU email and password to log in anywhere you see this icon:

If you are working off campus, Central Login also includes multi-factor authentication (MFA). You'll set this up when you activate your ULID!

My.IllinoisState

My Illinois State is the central location for Illinois State University's students, faculty, and staff, to quickly and easily access secure information and resources.

Once logged in, you'll be able to:

View class rosters and course meeting information
Final grade entry/submission
CIPD workshop registration
Benefits information
Library information
And many other features…

iPeople

iPeople is a Human Resources application used to report work hours, update address and other personal contact information, and view and approve employee time. In iPeople, you can submit time, view your leave balances, access your paystubs, set up direct deposit, get your tax forms, and register for workshops with CIPD.

iPeople can be accessed through My.IllinoisState.edu, under the Employee tab.

VPN at ISU

When you are working off campus, some of Illinois State University's electronic services are unavailable to you unless you establish a VPN connection. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection with the campus network is required in order to access restricted, electronic resources at Illinois State University, such as network drives, or certain iPeople functions (view full list). This does not affect services normally accessed by a web browser, such as Canvas or the My.IllinoisState portal services.

Illinois State University provides two options for connecting to campus via VPN:

Cisco Secure Client VPN client
a VPN profile (for MacOS or iOS users only)
